Most polyethylene canopy shelters have a warranty of up to fifteen years, but this is for the steel frame alone. The polyethylene canopy, however, generally lasts five years and, after that point, a replacement canopy will be needed. Typically, one of these shelters stays outside all year long, or for certain portion during the year, and, as a result, the regular wear-and-tear of being exposed to the weather for that long can cause a canopy to not be as effective. In this situation, how should you find a replacement for your worn canopy? Often, the dealer of the canopy structure carries replacements, although other options are available, as well.
In the case of various portable buildings, the canopies are somewhat different, especially for peaked and rounded roof portable garages. Dealers of these shelters, such as CanopyHut, will carry replacement canopies to specifically fit these types of shelters, including style and dimensions. Peaked storage buildings, in addition, have a variety of replacement canopy options. For example, portable sheds with a peaked roof often need a one-piece canopy to fully enclose the structure, while carports usually only have a canopy for a roof and no walls, unless specified. These specific replacement canopies should be no different than the one that came with the portable building and should attach easily to a canopy frame.
If you’re unable to get a specialized canopy, some structures can have a canopy replaced by using a heavy-duty polyethylene tarp, as they’re essentially the same type of material. When looking for a replacement tarp for your structure, measure the dimensions of the roof and add an inch, as most tarps shrink when the material is cut at the manufacturers. As bungee cords are used to hold an ordinary canopy in place on one of these structures, an ordinary heavy duty tarp with the appropriate dimensions can be secured to the steel frame of your canopy.
