RVs are a common type of seasonal vehicle, and, as with all seasonal vehicles, it needs to be in storage for part of the year. If you don’t have a garage at home large enough to house an RV during the colder part of the year, one option is to use an RV shelter or a portable building large enough for an RV. Typically, the portable buildings used for sheltering RVs are rounded roof canopies, which, in this case, are longer and higher than a typical portable garage. One of these shelters offers a fully-enclosed space for your RV to protect it from exposure to the elements for several months.
When left outside for several months, an RV can have mildew build up on the surface due to moisture and can have the surface fade and crack from UV exposure. In fact, if left outside long enough, interior plastic portions of an RV can crack from UV exposure. Having the vehicle covered can help it last for several years. When an RV is stored in a portable building, the building keeps out the UV rays and moisture, as the polyethylene canopy is treated to be waterproof and UV resistant. Inside, air is able to circulate, and this prevents moisture and dry rot from forming on the surface.
For choosing the proper RV shelter, the dimensions of the vehicle need to be measured first. This includes the height, width, and length of the vehicle, and any appendages, such as roof vents, need to be taken into account, too. The shelter surrounding the RV needs some space, as well, as, while the RV is in storage, someone will need to go inside and check on it occasionally to make sure no dry rot or mildew has formed and that no smaller animals are living in the shelter.
